Maintenance Checklist To Increase The Lifespan Of Your Batching Plant

The best way to achieve an efficient batching plant is to ensure its maintenance at the proper time intervals. Maintenance modality can vary from shift bracket to an annual bracket according to necessity. Such maintenance and inspection aim to ensure the efficient functioning of the machine.

Your maintenance checklist must cover these 3 main components:

1. Loading hopper units from manual to automated systems.

2. Electronic systems etc. Load cells, indicators, score board, and water system.

3. Transportation unit: Mixing unit (Concrete mixing trucks)

Details of each activity with time intervals are given below.

Daily maintenance checklist

Check if all mechanical and electrical connections are working properly (no loose connections, damage cables, emergency stop etc.,) Moving parts should be covered safety guards and clear path around plant to avoid any mishaps.

• Plant is in a level position to ensure the accurate reading of the load cells.
• Ensure no loose connections on the load cells, score board and indicators. All instruments are in working condition and not damaged. Especially for water damage.
• Check Orange electrical control box for nay damage, loose connections, water damage. 
• Weighing hoppers must be emptied of any excess material before using.
• Adjust Conveyor belt if necessary, to ensure the belt is running straight on the head and tail pulleys.
• Conveyor belt is clean, any damages and no objects wedged or stuck that can damage the belts.
• Check gearboxes seals for any damage or leaks before switching the plant in running mode.
• No damage to discharge rubber sock. (Feeding into your mixer truck)
• Doors for aggregate hopper, cement hopper, Pneumatic cylinders must be checked to ensure responsiveness and flexibility.
• Ensure that all bearings and aggregate hopper doors bushes is greased.
• Water filter system is cleaned. Objects that can damage the water meter and for any leaks.

Weekly maintenance checklist

• Ensure complete inspection of the batcher. Remove any material remaining inside the aggregate//cement hoppers. During this process, the electric connection to the machine should be cut off. A person should be given charge of watching and ensuring safety in that area.
• Clean load cells of the machine to avoid sudden faults during operation.
• Check for any leakage in water lines and seal those on time. Any damage to the water meter and pick-up wire. Water display for any error messages.
• Ensure greasing of bushes and bearings on time.
• Any damages on conveyor belt and rubber lagging on drive pulley.
• Ensure Head & Tail pulley’s is clean of any excess material to prevent the belt from stretching and aligned pulleys.
• Avoid loose wire connection and ensure safety against all electrical hazards. Ensure emergency stop is working condition.
• Clean head Shute of any excess material.
• Check the level of oil on air-line lubricants.
• Aggregate doors are free moving and inspect for any damages.
•  Aggregate door stoppers are adjusted.

Monthly maintenance checklist

The monthly checklist mainly comprises of validation readings of weigh scales, water meter and admixture dispenser. Butterfly valves in water and cement lines should also be checked to ensure necessary flow and safety.

Quarterly maintenance checklist

• Conveyor belts can be subjected to tension and get worn out. All bolted and welded connections must be checked thoroughly at quarterly intervals.
• Remove all foreign particles from the screw conveyor to reduce disruption.
• Check the alignment of the product on the belt conveyor and adjust if necessary.
• Change oil in gearboxes on a routine basis, or should have any damage to the seals occurred.

Besides all the mentioned points, it is especially important to check any parts of the batching plant for abnormal noise. Take immediate actions to avoid the breakdown of the machine in the longer run. If there is concrete on the main engine shaft, clean it without delay.
